Some of you may have heard about The Families First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA). This was recently passed at the Federal Level. It is specific to employers with 500 employees or less. There are also exceptions for employers in the “Health Care” field. For these reasons, we are not eligible for the provision under this act. I have attached the Employee Rights poster for your information. And here is a short summary. Basically, the Act has two (2) provisions.
(Please note we are sharing this with you for your information. PCL is exempt from these requirements, and the funding made available to pay for them.)
- Up to two weeks (80 hours) of paid sick leave for reasons related to COVID-19 (see poster for full details)
- Up to an additional 10 weeks of paid sick leave (up to $200 daily and $12,000 total) if you are caring for your child whose school or place of care is closed (or child care provider is unavailable) due to COVID-19 related reasons
Employers who meet this requirement will be able to recoup the money that is paid through their payroll taxes. (PCL is not eligible for this benefit)
As stated above, PCL is not eligible for relief under this act.
Prior to this act coming out, PCL chose to open up eligibility for the Paid Leave Pool to support PCL’s team members who may be affected by COVID-19. You can find more information about this through PCL’s Staff Links page under the “In The Know” tab.
(Please note it is not PCL’s choice to be exempt from this act. It is how the law was written. As much as we would like to offer these expanded benefits we can not without the accompanying resources to do so.)
